'Birds Drop A Pair of Friday Games to the College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho - No. 8 College of Idaho opened up its final home weekend of the season with a pair of 8-1 wins over the University of British Columbia on Friday.

Game one featured Hallie Holland, Hattie Hruza and Kaylee MacDannald, who each record two hits in the win for College of Idaho. Yotes starting pitcher Katelyn Wilfert allows four hits and strikes out eight in the win to raise her record to 14-3 on the season. Keona Nordquist paced the UBC attack with two hits and drove in their lone run of the game with a homerun. Shelby Kempel started the game for UBC and pitched the first three innings allowing four runs (two earned). Taylor McRae and Brittain Hunsberger rounded out the other three innings.

With the game tied at 1, in the bottom of the third, a RBI double by Hruza and a RBI single by Powell regained the lead for College of Idaho as the Yotes went ahead 3-1. The Yotes added to its lead in the fourth with a solo home run by MacDannald and a RBI single by Lexi Navarrete. The final three runs came in the fifth inning with RBI singles by McNerney, MacDannald and Holland.

Wilfert, who surrendered a pair of singles to start the game, came back to allow just two more hits and struck out eight on her way to a complete game.

Game two saw College of Idaho pound out nine hits with two each from Kaily Christensen, Madelyn Powell and Lindsay Jones in the win. Haley Loffer and Hattie Hruza each scored twice. The nine-hits and eight runs were enough offensive support for Hannah McNerney, who pitched a complete game to raise her record to 17-2. McNerney struck out four and allowed five hits in the win. Five different 'Birds registered hits in the rematch and the lone RBI came from an Avery Mossop groundout in the top of the fourth inning. Lindsay Bell threw the first three innings for UBC while Shae Sever (two innings) and Brittain Hunsberger (one inning) rounded out the pitching.
