T-Birds tame Wolfpack with dominant victory

KAMLOOPS – The visting UBC Thunderbirds proved to be too much for the host Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team to handle in a dominant 83-26 victory inside the TCC Saturday night.
 
Makeba Taylor and Maggie Fehr led the WolfPack with six points each, in addition to snaggin three and four rebounds respectively. Danijela Kovacevic had five points and Megan Rouault picked up seven rebounds.
 
Olivia Weekes had a breakout performance for the Thunderbirds scoring 26 points and seven rebounds. Taelor Coxford pitched in with 16 points and Sofia Bergamn added 10 points in the lopsided win.
 
The Thunderbirds came out swinging, shooting over 50 per cent from the field as a team to put themselves up 23-4 after just 10 minutes. Weekes led the charge for the Thunderbirds with eight points to go along with three rebounds and Coxford chipped in with six baskets. The Wolfpack got on the board through two points each from Kelsey Cruz and Kovacevic, respectively.


 
The WolfPack were able to solidify their defence picking up seven defensive rebounds, with Rouault picking up five, which resulted in a closer score line in the second quarter. The 'Pack kept the Thunderbirds to just 10 points while scoring six of their own from three different players.
 
Coming out of the half-time break, the Thunderbirds found their second wind. They outscored the WolfPack 31-4 in the third thanks to 12 points from Weekes.
 
 The Thunderbirds continued that momentum in the final frame and ran away with a score of 83-26.
 
UBC shot a scorching 48 per cent from the floor as a team and forced TRU into making 42 turnovers in the contest.
 
The result moves UBC to a record of 9-3 on the year while TRU falls to 1-11.
 
UBC will be back at home next weekend when they play host to the Regina Cougars while the WolfPack hit the road the play the UFV Cascades in Abbotsford.
