"We have a good mix of new 'Birds and returning athletes so I've really enjoyed watching the team come together as a unit and support one another each week," said UBC head coach Poonam Sandhu, as the Thunderbirds reach the mid-point of regular season action. "There are always areas we can improve on, but I appreciate the attitude and intention the team brings in each practice to deliver improvements on all fronts. Everyone can expect UBC to bring out their tenacity and grit once again this weekend. I'm really looking forward to our home-opener weekend and encourage everyone to come out and support the team this weekend!"

The T-Birds were on Vancouver Island last weekend to take on the three-time defending U SPORTS champion University of Victoria Vikes and came away with a shootout victory in game one, before falling 4-1 in game two.

Calgary's last conference action was a pair of shut-out losses to the Thunderbirds, 2-0 and 1-0, two weekends ago in Alberta – as the Dinos are still in search of their first Canada West win of the season.

"I expect the Dinos to come out stronger than last time," continued Sandhu. "We know that this team adapts well to their opponents and brings a fast paced and competitive game. They're aggressive on attack and relentless on defense, so we want to be prepared for that and stick to our game plan. We look forward to hosting the Dinos and expect this weekend to be an exciting match-up."
