CALGARY
– Liz Mathisen's goal was the lone tally on Sunday afternoon as the UBC Thunderbirds (2-0) edged the University of Calgary Dinos (0-4) 1-0 at Hawkings Field in Calgary. The win marks the second in as many games for UBC against Calgary having also earned a 2-0 decision against the Dinos last night.
The blue and gold had to wait until late to find the back of the net on Sunday. Mathisen got the final touch on a ball that barely got past Dinos goalkeeper Taylor Guy late in the third quarter in the 44
th minute.
In the final two minutes, the Dinos looked to generate some attack by pulling goalkeeper Alana Madrid but UBC was able to stave off Calgary's late efforts to secure the win.
UBC goalkeeper
Hannah Rumble picked up her second straight shutout.
The Thunderbirds now travel to Vancouver Island next weekend where they will face the Victoria Vikes, Sept. 24-25.
The Dinos head into a bye week and return to action Oct. 1-2 when they face the Thunderbirds in Vancouver.
