VANCOUVER – It was another dominant day for the UBC Thunderbirds at the Golf Canada Canadian University Championship on Thursday in Bromont, Quebec as the blue and gold increased their team lead to a whopping 55 strokes over the second place UBC Okanagan Heat through 36 holes of play, now with a ten-under-par total gross score of 213.
Shooting a collective seven-under par in round two, the highlight of the day for UBC came courtesy of third-year
Shania Remandaban who shot a hole-in-one on the 133-yard par three 11
th en route to a three-under par round of 69. Remandaban improved by 12 strokes over her first round on Wednesday and moved up into fourth place on the individual leaderboard at six-over for the tournament.
Now halfway through the event, the Thunderbirds boast the top four individual golfers, led by
Elizabeth Labbe whose one-over 73 Thursday has her in a two stroke lead over teammate
Sonja Tang who shot a five-under 67 in round two, the lowest score of any of the 51 golfers on the course.
Grace Bell sits seven strokes back of Labbe at four-over for the tournament after her 79 on Thursday and currently sits in third.
At 10-under as a team, UBC shot 29 strokes better than the Heat in the second round. The Fraser Valley Cascades round out the top three, two strokes back of UBCO.
The T-Birds continue their pursuit of a fifth consecutive Golf Canada Championship with round three Friday. The 72-hole event at the Chateau Bromont course concludes Saturday.
