EDMONTON - UBC Thunderbird
Savannah Bauder carried over her sensational regular season into the playoffs, scoring a remarkable 27 points in a 64-12 UBC win over Alberta in the CW Semifinal.
The third-year fly half showcased her tremendous speed and leg, scoring four tries in the dominant UBC win, while also connecting on seven successful converts on Thursday afternoon. This comes on the heels of Bauder leading CW with 100 points scored in five regular season games.
The win gives UBC a chance to capture the conference three-peat, and will take on Victoria in the conference final on Sunday afternoon. Victoria advanced to the final with a 34-8 win over Calgary in the first semifinal at Foote Field.
Piper Logan also scored a pair of tries for UBC, while Alberta countered with scores from
Bronwyn Dormaar and
Kate Manning.
UBC wasted little time getting on the board, as
Alayna Scramstad raced to goal in the second minute. The T-Birds added to their lead with four more tries before the 30th minute, displaying both a speed and strength advantage over the host Pandas.
Sadie Gluvic and
Tia Jordo also scored for UBC in the first half, who led 47-5 after 40 minutes of play.
Bauder added her third try in the 57, following a
Rori Wood try in the 44th.
Manning capped off a strong performance for the Pandas with both a try and successful convert in the 63rd.
The UBC Thunderbirds play the Victoria Vikes in the Championship Final, scheduled for 1:00 pm at Foote Field on Sunday. UBC beat Victoria 45-24 in their first meeting, before tying 31-31 in the regular season finale.
Alberta will take on Calgary in the third-place game on Sunday morning at 11:00 am at Foote Field. Calgary earned wins of 20-0 and 43-12 over the Pandas in the regular season.
