The top seeded UBC Thunderbirds' quest to defend their Canada West championship continues Thursday, October 28
th, at 1:30 p.m. (PST) in the conference semi-final against the fourth place Calgary Dinos. UBC finished first in the conference with a perfect 5-0 record and closed out the regular season ranked No. 3 in U SPORTS, while the No. 10 ranked Dinos squad finished 3-3 in conference play and will host the Canada West Final Four.
Â
"Calgary is a very well coached team," said UBC head coach
Dean Murten. "They gave us a very difficult time in the first 50 minutes the last time we played them. I have no doubt they'll be up for this one. Finishing fourth in the regular season will hurt them and they'll be highly motivated in front of home fans. I'm expecting them to come hard at us and play a territory game, then look to use their outstanding lineout."

Â
The T-Birds earned a come-from-behind 39-20 victory over the Dinos in their lone meeting this season at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre thanks in part to a three-try performance from standout fly half
Savannah Bauder and two second half tries from wing
Piper Logan. UBC's depth has been on display all season as they led the league in offense – averaging 48 points per game – and scored four or more tries in each of their regular season outings.
Â
"I'm very pleased with the way the team has played as a team," added Murten. "We've scored in several different ways and wanted to be a bit more creative as we take a few more chances this year. All the players have done what we asked. I'm also very mindful that we have not won anything yet and we must not get carried away."
