T-Birds host Pronghorns in a battle for first in the Canada West

The undefeated UBC Thunderbirds host the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a battle for top spot in the Canada West on Thursday, October 14th, at 4:00 p.m. (PST) at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre. Although the two teams are tied atop the conference with 15 points apiece, UBC enters the contest ranked No. 5 in U SPORTS, while the Pronghorns sit in the No. 9 spot with two games remaining in the regular season.

The T-Birds lead the Canada West in offence with 130 points scored and second-year fly half Savannah Bauder's back-to-back three-try performances has her among the conference best with six tries and 51 total points on the season.

"I've been very happy where the scores have been coming from, i.e. forwards, backs, team try's and individual brilliance," said UBC head coach Dean Murten as his team ramps up for a pivotal return to action after a weekend off of conference play. "I'm also very happy when things are not going to plan, we're able to make some adjustments to fix problems."

The Pronghorns have allowed a conference-best 36 points against in four games and are coming off a 22-14 victory over the Calgary Dinos.

"Lethbridge is a very well coached team," continued Murten. "We will need to be on the top of our game for 80 minutes in this one. Not just for 50 minutes like our last game. They have some powerful players that we must stop and a very effective lineout with many options which gives them a good platform to launch their attack from. They'll defend hard and give us very little time and space. We need to be prepared for a physical game."
