VANCOUVER – Batters and pitchers shined again as UBC took two and swept the visiting Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls at Tourmaline West Stadium on Sunday.

"All around, I thought today was a really solid and consistent day approach wise from us and we played all facets of the game well," UBC head coach
Chris Pritchett said after the game.

In Game 1 on Sunday, the Thunderbirds put up a five run first inning, sending 10 batters to dish. In the second inning, the 'Birds chased Oregon Tech pitcher Josh Overstreet from the game, when they tacked on two more runs.

The Owls rebounded, scoring two in the third and fourth innings off UBC's pitcher
Adam Maier, cutting the 'Birds lead in half 8-4. Maier finished up his outing, going five innings, yielding the four runs for the victory.Â

Finnigan Duffield came in for Maier in the sixth and closed out the game for UBC throwing four shutout innings.

As for the 'Birds offence, they tacked on runs in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings cruising to an 11-4 victory. They were led by a trio of hitters as
Jaxon Valcke,
Brett Corbeth and
Cameron Sanderson each recorded two hits.

UBC continued their hot-hitting ways into Game 2, as they put up a three spot in the first inning, highlighted by a Meier double.

Barry Caine got his first start of the season for UBC and turned in a strong performance. Caine went seven strong, giving up just one run while striking out 11.

Barry Caine gave us seven really good innings. I thought he was in control the whole time and that really gave us a chance to win that game," Pritchett said of his series finale starter.

The Thunderbirds tacked on more runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take the game 6-1 and sweep the weekend series.

The 'Birds head south to Oregon where they will take on Corban in a four-game series with opener set for Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
