PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. –
Grant Audu and
Jadon Cohee each poured in 20 points to lead the UBC Thunderbirds to a 96-78 triumph over the Northern BC Timberwolves in Prince George, B.C., Friday night.
Â
Cohee nailed six baskets from long range, while
Manroop Clair made five to account for all his scoring in a 15-point night.
Â
Zack Moore was outstanding, posting 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Lincoln Rosebush scored 10 points, while
Grant Shephard led the Thunderbirds with eight rebounds.
Â
"For us, as soon as we start scoring, we start playing good defence," said Cohee. "I wish we played good defence all game, but we made some shots and were able to get some stops. That allowed us to go on a run."
Â
UBC blew the game wide open late in the second quarter. UNBC used an 8-0 run to close its deficit to 27-26 early in the second. Then, the Thunderbirds scored the next 13 points, with Moore providing the first six on two layups and a pair of foul shots. Moore also had three steals in four possessions during the big surge.
Â
It was all part of a 24-7 UBC run to close the quarter, capped off by a Moore three to put UBC up 51-33 at the break.

Cohee lit up the scoreboard in the third quarter with four three-point baskets. The hosts were unable to threaten the UBC lead in the final period, as the 'Birds improved to 3-2 in conference play.
Â
UBC went 38-78 from the field for 48.7 per cent shooting, including 14-38 from beyond the arc (36.8 per cent).
Â
"We are a better shooting team than we showed in preseason," said Cohee, postgame. "A lot of guys are in the gym every day, so it was good to finally make some shots."
Â
Both teams were even on the boards, with UBC finishing the battle on the glass with 39 to UNBC's 37. The difference came on turnovers, where UNBC struggled to protect the ball giving up 20 turnovers to UBC's nine, leading to 17 points off turnovers for the T-Birds. UBC also owned the inside game outscoring UNBC 46-32.
Â
The two teams clash again on Saturday night (7 p.m.), at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre in Prince George, B.C.
Â
"They have two great players in Tyrell (Laing) and Vova (Pluzhnikov)," said Cohee. "It is a dogfight here. It's a fun place to play and they're a great team. We will watch the film, make some adjustments and see how it goes."
