The No. 1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds finished a weekend sweep of the Winnipeg Wesmen with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21) road victory Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.

It was an eighth straight win for the 'Birds who's record improves to 14-2 while the young Winnipeg squads record drops to 1-15 on the season.

The T-Birds received spread out contributions beginning with first-year left side
Kiera Van Ryk leading the way with 13 kills and eight digs. Second-year right side
Olivia Furlan had a standout night with eight kills, nine assists and four digs while fourth-year outside hitter
Victoria Behie recorded seven kills and six digs. Rounding out the scoresheet for UBC was second year middle
Gabrielle Attieh who added six kills, four service aces and five digs.

Ashleigh Laube had six kills and six digs to lead the Wesmen, who took an 18-17 lead in the third set only to have UBC win four of the next five points to take a 22-19 lead. Kalena Shulz chipped in with five kills and two digs for Winnipeg.

The T-Birds will now enjoy a bye week before returning to Canada West action on January 26 and 27 when they host the Brandon Bobcat
