Thunderbirds fall to Wolf Pack in Costa Rica

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Playing their second game in what will be a three games in three days trip to Central America, the UBC men's basketball team dropped a 77-58 decision to the NCAA's Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday afternoon at Hatillo BN Arena In San Jose, Costa Rica.

For the second game in a row, senior Luka Zaharijevic led UBC on the score sheet with 10 points to go along with four rebounds.  Zaharijevic scored 14 point and grabbed seven rebounds on Friday when the 'Birds dropped 78-73 decision to the UTEP Miners.

UBC had balanced attack against Nevada, a team that qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2017 before being knocked out in the first round by the Iowa State Shockers. Mason Bourcier, Isaiah Familia and Anthony McNish all scored seven points, while Grant Shephard, Grant Adu and Justin McChesney all chipped in with six.



Junior Caleb Martin, who was an ESPN top 100 prospect coming out high school in North Carolina, was a force for the Wolf Pack, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

UBC led the game 19-9 after the first quarter, but were outscored 68-39 the rest of the way.

UBC will get a chance for redemption when the two teams re-match Sunday at 5pm PT.
