Badly in need of some good results, the Thunderbirds (1-16, 0-9) can take advantage of home cooking this weekend when they host the Great Falls (Montana) Argos (11-11, 3-9) at Softball City in Surrey, BC for back-to-back doubleheaders.
 
The 'Birds and Argos square off Friday, March 31 at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
 
The second of the twin bills goes Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
 

Last Action

 
UBC had a somewhat forgettable weekend in Southern Oregon, dropping four straight to the nationally ranked Raiders. Battling a rash of injuries throughout the season thus far, UBC Coach Gord Collings thinks his team might have turned the corner health wise.
 
"I'm optimistic were going to turn the corner and get a couple of wins," says Collings. "Our health is improving and that will be a big factor for us."
 
The Argos are coming off a weekend series that saw them win three of four games over Northwest University.

Players To Watch

 
Hillary Strelau – leading the 'Birds in batting average (.385) and hits (20), UBC's leadoff hitter needs a big weekend at the plate and in the field to help grab the first conference victory of 2017 for the 'Blue and Gold.


 
Lexie Brenneis – despite playing with an injured hand, the catcher still leads UBC in RBIs with 12. Brenneis is one of the players who seems to be getting her health back and poised for a breakout weekend.

"We are right on the edge of getting over the hump and getting some wins. The girls are working really hard," says Collings. "We get a few breaks here and there and we'll be fine."
