The 'Birds and Pandas last squared off in a hard-fought split at War Memorial Gym back in mid-January, with UBC winning the first game 71-64 before the Pandas came back with a 60-57 win.

Last Action

The 'Birds won their way into the quarterfinals with a pair of impressive play-in series triumphs over the UNBC Timberwolves. UBC took the games 74-61 and 76-55, parlaying a dominant defensive effort into comfortable wins on both nights.

The T-Birds were lead in the contest by import guard Maddison Penn, as the sophomore notched a combined 40 points, 12 rebounds, six steals, and two assists over the two games against UNBC.

By the Numbers

39 – The 'Birds totaled a remarkable 39 steals over the weekend, leading to a total of 56 Timberwolves turnovers across both contests. The 'Birds consistently turned their defensive effort into offensive production, scoring a combined 48 points off of turnovers.

28.5 – UBC's chances against the Pandas may come down to their efficiency from beyond the arc. In their 71-64 win over Alberta last month, the 'Birds knocked down a blistering 8-of-14 (57.1%) on their three-point attempts. In the 60-57 loss, UBC shot just 2-of-7 (28.6%), a stark difference of 28.5% between the two nights.

Players to Watch

Krysten Lindquist – The sophomore guard showed off her ability to be a two-way force last week, delivering maybe the best back-to-back games of her UBC career against the Timberwolves, as she racked up 26 points, 10 steals, and four assists in the T-Birds' series sweep.

Shilpa Khanna – The Thunderbirds will need the fourth-year guard to bounce after going a combined 0-for-8 from the field in the series against UNBC. Still, the sharpshooter remains the T-Birds' strongest three-ball sniper, as she finished the Canada West regular season shooting at a clip of 45-of-115, good for 39.1% and fifth place in the conference.
