WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Wesmen (6-4) completed the weekend sweep of the visiting UBC Thunderbirds (4-6) with a 71-52 victory Saturday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre.
It was a tight battle from tip-off as the Wesmen held a 16-15 lead after the opening frame, led by third-year Faith Hezekiah's seven points.
But the second and third quarters belonged to the Wesmen who dominated on both sides of the ball while outscoring the T-Birds 43-23 to take a 59-38 lead heading to the final period.
UBC outscored Winnipeg 14-12 in the fourth but the damage had been done as the T-Birds suffered a third straight loss.

Faith Hezekiah led all players with a double-double, scoring 24 points while grabbing 18 rebounds. Canada West leading scorer Antoinette Miller finished with 20 points and six rebounds.
UBC's top scorer was Keylyn Filewich with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Maddison Penn secured her sixth double-double of the season scoring 11 points and adding 12 rebounds.
The Thunderbirds close out the pre-exam Canada West schedule at home next weekend hosting the Regina Cougars Friday and Saturday at War Memorial Gym.
