'Birds look to keep momentum with date in national championships approaching

The Matchup

Having already clinched their 10th Canada West title in the last 11 seasons, the UBC Thunderbirds will be playing for pride and to keep their forward momentum going when they host the Calgary Dinos this weekend at Wright Field.

The matches go on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday October 15, with both starting at 11am.

On Sunday, the Thunderbird Athletic Council and their fans will be out in full force as the match is designated a "Hype Game".

Sunday will also see the 'Birds presented with their Canada West banners and medals. The games will be the final tune-up for UBC before hosting the OUA champion at the U SPORTS field hockey national championship in early November.

Last Action

UBC scored two epic wins over the UVic Vikes last weekend, clinching the Canada West banner. The 'Birds were able to score 2-0 and 2-1 victories over their archrivals from Vancouver Island.

The winless Dinos had a bye last weekend and are coming off back-to-back 1-0 defeats at the hands of the Vikes. Much improved this season, Calgary will be more than ready to spoil UBC's party with an upset win.

By the Numbers

5 – the number of outright wins in a row for the 'Birds after opening the season with a 1-1 draw versus Victoria.

3 – the number of goals tallied by T-Bird snipers Margaret Pham and Meghan Hayden this season, tied for tops in Canada West.
