UBC unbeaten streak ended

SASKATOON – With a 68-46 win, the Saskatchewan Huskies handed the No. 10-ranked UBC Thunderbirds their first league loss of the season Friday night on Ron & Jane Graham Court in Saskatoon.
 
A blistering start by the Huskies saw them build a 25-6 lead after the first quarter. Saskatchewan kept a stronghold on the lead in the remaining 30 minutes to improve to 5-3 on the season and earn its second win over a ranked opponent in three games. The T-Birds suffer their first loss after opening conference play 8-0.
 
Summer Masikewich was a big part of the Huskies early lead needing just two quarters to record her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sabine Dukate led the green and white with 16 points in the game.
 
Kara Spotton led the T-Birds with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Spotton also recorded a team-high seven rebounds. Maddison Penn had 13 points and six boards, while rookie guard Ali Norris posted a career-best nine points off the bench.

The Huskies shot 47.2 per cent in the first half while holding the T-Birds to just 25 per cent to take a 43-21 halftime lead. Saskatchewan recorded 17 assists on 27 made field goals and finished the game shooting 45.8 per cent.
