UBC looks for bounce back performance against Cougars

After a perfect 8-0 start the season, the UBC Thundebrirds women's basketball team (9-3) have been defeated in three of four games since returning from the Christmas break. The 'Birds will have a chance to get back on track this weekend when they visit the struggling Mount Royal Cougars (2-10) in Calgary.

The Thunderbirds suffered a pair of losses against the Saskatchewan Huskies in early January. Their 46 point performance in the second game was the T-Birds lowest scoring contest of the season. UBC reignited the following weekend on home court with a 71-64 win over the Alberta Pandas, though they lost the following evening by a narrow three points.

After winning two of their opening three games in November, the Cougars have dropped nine straight. Despite some high scoring matches, Mount Royal is experiencing the longest losing streak in Canada West.

Kara Spotton (#08, F) – Leads her team with 25.3 minutes of play per game, and is averaging 11.8 PPG. She has been a consistently strong part of the Thunderbirds squad.

Maddison Penn (#15, G) – Her 19 points last Saturday helped lead UBC to their win over Alberta. Her notable free-throw accuracy (87%) has her ranked 12th in the country.
