VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team fell 4-1 to the host Eastern Washington Eagles Saturday in a non-conference matchup, which was the season opener for both squads.
Â
The defending CIS champions opened the scoring in the first half on a 39th-minute goal by reigning national tournament most valuable player
Jasmin Dhanda (Surrey, B.C.).
Â
Eastern Washington then replied with four second-half markers, a rally sparked by Savannah Hoekstra, who tied the game in the 63rd minute before potting the game winner in the 64th.
Â
The Thunderbirds directed eight shots towards the EWU net, with half of them hitting the target.
Â
It was the competitive debut for UBC head coach
Jesse Symons, who gave 19 players game action today in Cheney, Wash. The T-Birds will play North Idaho College Monday in Cheney.
