VANCOUVER – UBC ran up and down the floor at War Memorial Gym for three quarters with the very athletic Charlotte 49ers. But in the end their short bench got the best of them as they dropped an 89-71 decision to the visiting NCAA team.

Â
UBC dressed only eight players for the game due to injuries and some team members being out of the country, while Charlotte rolled out all 15 of their players under the watchful eye of head coach and former NBA All-Star Mark Price.

Â
Jordan Jensen-Whyte played a strong game for UBC, scoring 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds. In a big moment for a very big teenager, UBC recruit and 6'10" Prince Rupert, BC native Justin McChesney saw his first action in Thunderbird uniform. McChesney proved he wasn't intimidated by the bigger and older Charlotte post players and even knocked down a three-pointer, showing the deft shooting touch that made him a BC high school star.
Â
Senior guard Brandon Ogbueze was quiet in the early going but heated up in the second half to finish with 23 points for the 49ers. Fellow Charlotte guard Jon Davis scored 21.
Â
The 49ers are on a one week tour of Canada seeing them play several universities in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. UBC tips off their 2016-17 season on October 14th versus Lethbridge.Â
