KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – UBC (36-17, 22-11 NAIA W) absorbed a late rally by Oregon Tech (16-37, 7-26 NAIA W) in the opener, then
Jeremy Newton (Toronto, Ont.) went the distance in the nightcap, as the Thunderbirds beat the 'Hustlin Owls, 11-6 and 13-1, in a NAIA West doubleheader at Kiger Stadium.
Â
One more win should sew up home-field advantage for UBC when the first pitch is thrown at the NAIA West Grouping Championship on May 6
th.
Â
Bruce Yari (Waterloo, Ont.) and
Anthony Olson (Edmonton, Alta.) combined for seven hits, four runs, and five RBI's in game one to give starter
Connor Noble (Vancouver) all the run support he would need, as he cruised to his ninth win of the season.

Â
In the second game Newton got a healthy cushion during UBC's three-run fourth inning.
Kyle McComb's (Surrey, B.C.) RBI double and Yari's two-run homer sparked the 'Birds offence, which looked unstoppable all afternoon. Newton pitched eight strong innings, giving up the one earned run and only walking two Owl batters.

Â
Yari was particularly potent on afternoon collecting seven hits and six RBI's in the two games.
