VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds hit the court this weekend at War Memorial Gym for the
West Coast Classic. The exhibition tournament features six teams from Canada West (UBC, Mt. Royal, MacEwan, Trinity Western, Thompson Rivers, Alberta) and two teams from the OUA (Western, Ryerson).
UBC Head Coach
Doug Reimer and his 2016-17 edition of the UBC Thunderbirds are getting a look at some of the teams who will be standing between them and a national championship in 2017.
The 'Birds started the tournament on Friday with a gritty 3-2 (25-16, 27-25, 10-25, 21-25, 16-14) win over Mt. Royal, then followed that up with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-19) win over MacEwan on Saturday afternoon.
This set UBC up for a rematch of the 2016 CIS semi-final with their regional rival Trinity Western Spartans. The 'Birds dropped a tough 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17) decision to TWU.
UBC will play Mount Royal for the bronze medal Sunday, October 16th at 11:45am at War Memorial Gym.
