VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds women's basketball team will aim to get 2016 off on the right foot, as they host the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a pair of contests to open the calendar year. The two teams will square off at 6 p.m. (PT) on Friday, January 8 and at 5 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, January 9, with both contests set to take place at War Memorial Gym.

The 'Birds will look to right the ship, following a 2015 portion of the campaign that saw them put up a 2-6 record in Canada West play, including four losses to close out 2015.Â

UBC's last series before the winter break was at Calgary. The T-Birds lost 70-50 in the Friday game and fell 74-72 the next night when a
Diana Lee (North Vancouver) three-point shot attempt at the buzzer rimmed out.

UBC two Canada West wins came against the Trinity Western Spartans, as the T-Birds took down their provincial counterparts 77-53 and 73-57 in mid-November.

On an individual basis, forward
Kara Spotton has been a massive bright spot for the 'Birds, as the Fort Collins, Colo., native sits fourth in Canada West with an average of 17.5 points-per-game in conference play. Â Spotton is also leading the 'Birds with an average of 5.8 rebounds-per-game in league play, while fifth-year forward
Adrienne Parkin (Vancouver) is close behind with an average of 5.6 boards.

Fifth-year guard Lee is leading the way in assists, averaging 2.4 per game.

The Pronghorns and first-year head coach Dave Adams are still looking for their first win of the season, as they've gone 0-6 in Canada West action.Â

Third-year guard leads Lethbridge with an average of 9.7 points per league game.

Rookie guard Katie Keith and second-year guard Danielle Fritzke are next with 8.8 and 8.7 points per contest, respectively.

On average, the 'Horns put up 54.3 points a game, while giving up 78. Both scoring marks have them ranked bottom three in Canada West.Â
