VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds baseball team will host its only home series of the fall this weekend, as they battle the Thompson Rivers WolfPack at Thunderbird Park Saturday and Sunday.
UBC swept all eight games from TRU last season and won the first two contests of this campaign earlier this month, by scores of 6-0 and 9-1. Shortstop
Kyle McComb (Surrey, B.C.) batted in three runs over the two games, while first baseman
Bruce Yari (Waterloo, Ont.) went 3-for-7 at the plate.
"Our team plays an exciting brand of baseball and is made up of some very talented players with some having professional baseball and, potentially, even Major League upside," said new UBC head
Chris Pritchett.
These games, though early in the season, can't be dismissed. Pritchett said they will be very important for the team's record.
"The games count on our spring schedule so we must approach this weekend with the mindset that we are going to compete at a high level and win these games."
The first game on Saturday will start at 1 p.m. while the opening pitch on Sunday will be thrown at 11 a.m. Fans will also get to see the brand-new, state-of-the-art UBC Baseball Indoor Training Centre, which officially opened earlier this week.
