WINNIPEG – The No. 6-ranked UBC Thunderbirds completed a weekend sweep against the Winnipeg Wesmen, posting a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-20) victory Saturday night in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.

UBC, with the win, remain undefeated in regular season action, improving their record to 8-0. Winnipeg, with the loss, drops to 3-7 in the Canada West women's volleyball standings.

Danielle Brisebois (Bolton, Ont.) led UBC with a match-high 12 kills. Juliana Kaufmanis (Richmond, B.C.) added 11. Samantha Patko (Vancouver) led the team in digs with 10. Ciara Hanly (Calgary) was in on seven blocks while Laura MacTaggart (Lacombe, Alta.) had three service aces.

Winnipeg was led by Tia Boroski's nine kills. Karissa Kuhr added seven. Setter Jayme Menzies had 19 assists and a pair of service aces. Sonia Rossy and Aaliyah Masepela each had four blocks.

The Wesmen opened the match in impressive fashion taking advantage of early errors by UBC combined with three kills by Karissa Kuhr to build a 10-5 lead early on. Winnipeg held the advantage into the technical timeout holding a 16-12 lead. Things changed in a hurray soon after, as UBC went on an 8-0 run sparked by three consecutive aces by MacTaggart to take a 23-19 late in the set. The T-Birds closed out the set in their favour, 25-21.

UBC held the lead from start to finish in the second set. The T-Birds went into the technical timeout with a 16-10 lead and eventually went on to win the set 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Winnipeg struggled offensively in the third set committing 13 attacking errors, which played a part in UBC closing out the match winning the third set 25-20.

UBC will be on the road next Friday and Saturday to face Mount Royal in Calgary. Winnipeg will have the bye and will next see action on November 27-28 on the road against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
