Former T-Bird Donaldson headed to Women's Rugby World Cup

VANCOUVER – Former UBC Thunderbirds women's rugby player Kim Donaldson has been selected to represent Canada at the upcoming IRB Women's World Cup in Paris, France in August.
 
FULL CANADIAN WORLD CUP ROSTER

Donaldson, a Toronto native, is one of 26 women named to the Canadian roster and one of seven who return from the squad that finished sixth at the 2010 World Cup in England. She also participated in the 2006 World Cup in Edmonton.
 
She starred for the UBC Thunderbirds women's team in the early and mid 2000s, winning Canada West All-Star status four times and CIS All-Canadian honours twice. Donaldson was instrumental in helping UBC qualify for the 2003 CIS women's rugby championship in Sherwood Park, Alta. She graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.

After finishing her playing eligibility in university, Donaldson continued helping the UBC women's rugby program by serving as an assistant coach.
 
She debuted with Canada's fifteen's team in June 2005 against the USA.

The World Cup is the biggest event in international women's fifteens rugby and Canada has appeared in all six tournaments dating back to the inaugural event in Wales in 1991. Canada's best performances at the World Cup include fourth place finishes in 1998, 2002 and 2006, before dropping to sixth in 2010.
