The UBC Thunderbirds wrapped up eight games in nine days in California with a 5-0 victory over Menlo College Friday morning.
Conor Lillis-White got the win while
Jerod Bartnik and
Vinny Martin provided the offense.
Scoreless through six innings of play
Jerod Bartnik got the Thunderbirds on the board with a solo home run in the top of the seventh to put UBC in front 1-0.
The Thunderbird would add to their lead in the eighth inning courtesy of a
Tyson Popoff sacrifice fly that scored
Matt Spillman from third. 2-0 was the score through eight innings.
Vinny Martin provided the insurance in the ninth inning, hitting a three run triple to put Thunderbirds ahead 5-0 and with the pitching that got on Friday that was more than enough runs.
Lillis-White got the start and the win after pitching six strong innings and allowing no runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out seven hitters.
Alex Webb came on in relief and he too was on his game, throwing three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and picking up three strikeouts to earn the save.
Menlo College pitcher Daniel Chavez suffered the loss despite a decent game in which he went seven innings of work, but of course gave up the one home run to Bartnik which proved to be the winning run.
Kevin Biro finished 2-for-4 on the day as UBC scored five runs on seven hits.
After returning home for a couple of days, the Thunderbirds will head to Oregon next weekend for the Concorida Porter Park Classic which runs Friday February 28th to Sunday March 2nd.
