VANCOUVER – After week's delay because of bad weather, the UBC Thunderbirds will finally get the 2014 NAIA baseball season underway on Thursday afternoon in San Diego.

The team will play three consecutive non-conference games against the Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions, an NCAA Division II school, at Carroll B. Land Stadium in San Diego.

The matchups on Thursday and Friday will begin at 2 p.m. while Saturday's meeting will start at 1 p.m.

UBC was supposed to start the NAIA season last weekend at the four-team, three-day Guardian Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Tournament at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, but constant snow prevented any of the scheduled games from going ahead.

Point Loma Nazarene has an overall record of 1-5 coming into the series, with its only victory coming against California State-Monterey Bay on Feb. 8. PLNU's last game, on Feb. 11 against San Diego Christian, was suspended with the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the 13th inning.

After the PLNU games in San Diego, UBC will continue its annual California road trip with a Feb. 16 scrimmage against St. Katherine College in Encinitas. The Thunderbirds will have a day off before getting back on the field for four more games on consecutive days at Redlands and Westmont (2) before winding up the trip with a neutral site game against NAIA West foe Menlo in Santa Barbara, Calif.
