Thunderbirds welcome Wesmen in a CIS Top 10 match up

VANCOUVER - After a tough series loss last weekend against the reigning Canada West and CIS champion University of Alberta Golden Bears, the UBC Thunderbirds (8-4) welcome the University of Winnipeg Wesmen (8-2) to Vancouver for a pair of games at War Memorial Gym.

The T-Birds stayed with the Golden Bears all weekend but fell 3-1 on Friday night and 3-2 on Saturday. Like UBC, the Wesmen are also coming away from a tough weekend loss, after splitting the weekend series with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack, putting their seven-match winning streak to a grinding halt.

Winnipeg boast several heavy hitters including Casey Schouten who's made 150 kills on the season and is second in the conference averaging 4.17 kills per set.

UBC outside hitter Mac McNicol leads the team with 157 total kills, while Irvan Brar is just behind him with 139. They are fifth and eighth in the league in total kills.

Middle Chris Howe continue to maintain his second-ranked position on the leaderboard with an average of 1.27 blocks per set.

UBC and Winnipeg are two of the most efficient teams in the Canada West offensively. The Wesmen own the league's best hitting percentage of .322 while the T-Birds are third at .289.

The schools have split their two game regular season series for the past three years.

Game times are 8:00 pm on Friday night and 7:00 pm on Saturday night.
