BOX SCORE
Â
The Thunderbirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth and deciding set, thanks to two kills from
Abbey Keeping and one each from Barclay and Setterlund, forcing the Cougars to call a timeout. But the team in blue and gold kept rolling, extending the advantage to 8-2 on a kill by
Juliana Kaufmanis.
Â
Any chance of a Mt. Royal comeback like the one they pulled off on Friday was quickly dashed when Barclay knocked down three kills in four points as UBC claimed a 15-6 win.
Â
It looked like the home team had the momentum going into the fifth set after the Cougars easily claimed a 25-11 win in set four, using 5-0 and 9-1 runs to pull away.
Â
In the third set, UBC didn't allow Mt. Royal to score more than two points in a row at any duration.
Â
The two teams split the first 26 points evenly in the first set before UBC ended the game 12-3, a run sparked by a Setterlund kill.
Â
With the loss the Cougars drop to 6-12 while UBC improves to a league-best 16-2. The Thunderbirds will head home to face Saskatchewan next weekend.
