For the second consecutive season, UBC's
Lisa Barclay was named the Most Valuable Player at the CIS women's volleyball championship after helping the Thunderbirds to the national title.
This past weekend in Sherbrooke, the Brandon, Man. native led UBC in kills in all three matches.
In the Thursday opener against Laval, Barclay knocked down 17 kills and was the only player on either team to reach double figures in that category as UBC won 3-0.
Against Trinity Western in the semifinals, Barclay had the most kills and services aces on the Thunderbirds side a with 10 and three respectively. She also had two solo blocks to give her a team-high 15.5 points. Barclay added 10 digs in a 3-1 triumph.
Then in the championship final against Alberta, Barclay capped off another UBC title run by recording a match-high 16 kills with an outstanding .538 attacking percentage. She had 18.5 points to pace UBC and also dug up 10 balls. The Thunderbirds dominated the final, winning in straight sets.
The team has now won six CIS banners in a row, tied for the longest streak ever. Barclay has won two tournament MVP awards in her three seasons of play.

Doug Plumb led the UBC Thunderbirds basketball team to back to back to wins this weekend and the 10
th Canada West Championship in the program's storied history.
A native of Pitt Meadows, BC, Plumb was a perfect 3-3 from three point land Friday night, scoring 15 points and adding 10 rebounds as UBC rallied from a 13 point deficit to defeat Fraser Valley 68-61 in the Canada West semi-final. With the win the Thunderbirds booked their ticket to the CIS Final 8.
Plumb was not done there, the following evening he had a game high 22 points, shooting 8-9 from the floor, as well he had 9 rebounds and five assists as UBC beat Victoria 72-69 in the Canada West gold medal game, earning the 'Birds the Canada West Championships.
Plumb and the Thunderbirds now head to Ottawa for the CIS Final 8 where they will take on Acadia in the quarterfinals Friday night.
