VANCOUVER –
Greg Densem (Toronto, ON) and
Mike Hole (Vancouver, BC) each drove in five runs to lead the UBC Thunderbirds baseball team to a 14-5 non-conference win over Whittier College on Wednesday. The game was shortened to seven innings.

Hole got all four of his RBI's in his first at-bat when he hit a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put UBC up 4-0.
The T-Birds added to their lead in the next inning with three more runs.
Turner Spears (Guelph, ON),
Kevin Biro (Deep Bay, BC), Densem and
Andrew Firth (London, ON) all hit singles to open the second. Densem's hit scored Spears while Firth's single brought Biro across home plate for the eventual winning run.
Jeremy Kral the lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to put UBC up by seven runs.
Whittier rallied in the bottom of the inning with five runs, but UBC got two of those back in the top of the third with more small ball.
Tyler Enns (Winnipeg, MB) led off with double to left centre. Spears moved him over to third base with a sacrifice bunt. He came home when Biro came to the plate and singled. Two batters later,
Andrew Firth also hit a single to score Biro. At the end of the third, UBC held a 9-5 advantage.
The Thunderbirds scored four more times in the top of the fourth inning and once more in the fifth to round out the scoring.
Hole ended the game 5-for-5 from the plate with four RBI's and three runs scored. Densem was 3-for-5 while Biro also scored three times.
Connor Lillis-White (Toronto, ON),
Matt Thornton (Campbell River, BC),
Sean Callegari (Richmond, BC) and
Miles Verweel (Toronto, ON) combined to throw 5.2 innings of shutout ball in relief of UBC starter
Connor Smith (Grimsby, ON). Verweel was credited with his first win of the season.
The T-Birds (5-4) will now head to Santa Barbara for a three-game set at Westmount College, starting Thursday at 2 p.m. Pacific.
