VANCOUVER – UBC's basketball teams will ring in the new year with non-conference games in the United States.
The Thunderbirds men's squad will play the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors on New Year's Day at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.

UBC enter their Hawaii trip with a regular season record of four wins and six losses, which currently has the team in sixth place, but just two games out of second, in the Canada West Pacific Division.
HPU, an NCAA Division II school, currently owns an overall record of 6-2. The Sea Warriors are 2-1 in Pacific West Conference play so far this season.
During their time in Hawaii, the Thunderbirds will also play the Hawaii Selects, a team made up of local former college and professional players, on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.
The UBC women's team will face the NAIA's Westmont College Warriors in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Jan. 2. The game at Murchison Gymnasium will begin at 12 noon.

Westmont owns a record of 6-3 while the 'Birds are in a three-way tie for first in the Canada West's Pacific Division with a record of 7-3.
Both UBC teams will use the non-conference games in the U.S. to keep sharp for the resumption of Canada West league play on the second weekend of January. That's when UBC will host Alberta (Jan. 10) and Saskatchewan (Jan. 11) at War Memorial Gymnasium on campus.
