Vancouver, BC - After sweeping the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend, the women's volleyball team will host the Calgary Dinos for a two-game series this upcoming weekend at War Memorial Gymnasium.
Â
The UBC Thunderbirds sit atop the Canada West standings with a record of 8-0 and remain the No.1 ranked team in the nation.Â
Â
Despite winning both games last weekend over the University of Winnipeg, UBC was put to the test winning 3-1 Friday night and 3-2 on Saturday. Despite gallant efforts from the Wesmen, the 'Birds were able to pull ahead at the very end on Saturday, winning the fifth set 17-15. It was just the second  time UBC had gone to five sets in the regular season or playoffs since they defeated Alberta in the CIS Final in five sets back on March 4, 2012. Over the course of the weekend, the 'Birds were led by
Lisa Barclay and
Rosie Schlagintweit, who contributed 43 and 28 kills for UBC, as well as setter
Kirsty Setterlund, who tallied 23 digs and 88 assists.Â
Â
While UBC was in Winnipeg, the Dinos lost back-to-back games to Trinity Western. Calgary, whose current season record stands at 4-4, were led by Royal Richardson, Sophie Carpentier, and Lauren Moncks. Richardson contributed 33 kills over the weekend, while Carpentier had 21. At setter, Moncks tallied 76 assists.

Games this weekend will start at 1:00 pm PST both Saturday and Sunday. Come out to War Memorial Gymnasium and cheer on the 'Birds as they face-off against the Dinos. Games will also be streamed live at
