VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's basketball team bounced back from their first-ever loss to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack by comprehensively beating them in their own gym on Saturday evening in Kamloops.
The Thunderbirds came away with a 71-54 victory and delivered a much-improved performance.
BOX SCORE
The 'Birds, having come off a poor shooting outing the night before, bounced back with a much more accurate display. While they only shot 25 percent from the field last night, they hit 40 percent of their shots tonight with and shot an even better percentage from three-point land. They sunk 10-21 from beyond the arc giving them a three-point shooting percentage of 47.6.
Kris Young and
Adrienne Parkin led the way with 16 points each.
Young picked up her first double-double of the season and
Harleen Sidhu grabbed her fourth, tonight recording 14 points and 11 boards.
Fully aware of how important leading scorer Taisya Worsfeld is to the WolfPack, the Thunderbirds did well to disrupt her game tonight. They did a good job not allowing her to get her shots away easily and some good defense contributed to her only shooting 3-14 from the field.
This win takes UBC to 4-2 for the season and keeps them in second position in the Pacific Division. The Thunderbirds welcome two prairie teams to town next weekend as both the Manitoba Bisons and the Winnipeg Wesmen head west in the hopes of improving their records.
