VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's basketball team fell 65-57 in overtime to the host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in Kamloops on Friday night.

UBC opened overtime with a
Harleen Sidhu layup and a
Stephanie Bell free throw to go up 56-53 with 2:39 left in the extra period. But the WolfPack outscored the Thunderbirds 12-1 the rest of the way to claim their first victory ever over UBC.
Sidhu sent the game into overtime with a buzzer-beaing three-point basketball from the left side of the court that tied the game at 53-53. The WolfPack were set to celebrate a victory in regulation. Taiysa Worsfold nailed a triple with 53 seconds to go to give TRU a 51-50 lead. UBC missed on two ensuing possessions to take the lead and was forced to foul Sarah Malate with a second to go. She made both free throws to give the home team a three-point lead, setting up Sidhu's dramatic bucket to end the fourth quarter.
UBC led just three times in regulation, twice in the first few minutes of the opening quarter, and once more with just 1:09 left in the fourth quarter. The Thunderbirds outscored the home team 17-11 to send the matchup into extra time.
A Sydney Williams three-point shot early in the second quarter gave TRU its first double-digit lead of the game at 21-11, but the visitors fought their way back to trail 27-25 at the half thanks to scoring from a variety of sources. Sidhu,

Adrienne Parkin (three-pointer) and Young (three-pointer) all made baskets after UBC went down 10 points, while
Jaime Hills and
Maggie Sundberg added a pair of foul shots.
TRU held a slight advantage in the third quarter, outscoring UBC 15-11 to take a six-point lead into the final period.
Sidhu recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds for UBC while Young led the team in scoring with 13 points. Parkin was also in double digits with 11.
Worsfold led the way for TRU with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
UBC shot 25.7 percent (18-70) from the field but was excellent from the charity stripe (15-18). The WolfPack made 22 of their 69 shots for 31.9 field goal percentage. They also out-rebounded the T-Birds 58-48.
Both teams now sport 3-2 records with a rematch to take place Saturday (5 p.m.) at TRU's Tournament Capital Centre.
