VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's rugby team dropped a 79-0 decision to the top-ranked Alberta Pandas at the Canada West championship in Lethbridge, Alta., on Friday morning.
Ashly Amson and Miranda Monty both scored three tries for Alberta, which recorded 29 points in the first half hour of play and took a 34-0 advantage into halftime.
Stefaany Hoffman, Loise Chevarie, Amee Svatos, Julia Goss, Rebecca Fairbairn, Samantha Jory and Amy Speers also scored for the Pandas. Fairbairn added seven converts.
UBC will play for Canada West bronze on Sunday morning in a 10 a.m. game against the host Lethbridge Pronghorns.
