Vancouver, BC - This weekend, the UBC women's field hockey team will host the University of Victoria Vikes in a double-header at home on Wright Field, where they remain undefeated this year.
Both Victoria and UBC come into the series with a conference record of 4-0-1, leaving them in a tie for the No. 1 ranking in the conference. Over the next two weeks the Thunderbirds and Vikes will go head-to-head three times with the best-of-three winner earning the top-seed at the CIS national championship, hosted in Victoria Oct. 31-Nov. 3.
Only three weeks ago, the 'Birds faced-off against the Vikes in Victoria, resulting in a 0-0 tie. Now, both teams find themselves ontwo game winning streaks heading into the weekend. Last year, UBC went 5-0 against Victoria.
The women's field hockey team is on a 30 game winning streak, with the last team loss occurring in October of 2011. With momentum in their favour, the 'Birds are certainly aiming to defend their title as National Champions.
Regardless of the weekend's results, UBC will be returning to the CIS National Field Hockey Championship tournament in Victoria on Thursday, October 31 in Victoria.
Come out to Wright Field this weekend and support the 'Birds as they prepare for a grueling series against the Vikes! Games will be held at 1:00 pm (PST) both Saturday and Sunday.
Following this weekend, UBC will wrap up the Canada West regular season in Victoria on October 26 against the Vikes.
