UBC looks to continue six-game winning streak

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds men's basketball team, sitting at No. 2 in the CIS men's basketball rankings, will try to extend its six-game winning streak this weekend in Kelowna against the UBC Okanagan Heat. Both games will be streamed with live statistics at CanadaWest.tv.

GAME TIMES
Friday, Jan. 25
8 p.m. – No. 2 UBC at UBC Okanagan

Saturday, Jan. 26
7 p.m. – No. 2 UBC at UBC Okanagan

No. 2 UBC Thunderbirds (12-2)
Last week: W 90-75 v Brandon, W 75-65 v Regina

The Thunderbirds dispatched Brandon and Regina last week at War Memorial Gym, winning both games by double figures. On both nights, UBC held a comfortable lead going into halftime only to see the visitors close the gap with a surge in the third quarter.

The T-Birds once again spread the scoring around, with five men in double figures on Friday night and four on Saturday. Byrlle Kamen extended his streak of double-doubles to six consecutive games.  He leads the Canada West with 11.7 rebounds a game. Doug Plumb is the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.4 points a game, good enough for 11th place in the Canada West.

UBC Okanagan Heat (2-13)
Last week: L 64-91 at Saskatchewan, L 64-84 at Alberta

It has not been a particularly successful first-year UBC Okanagan head coach Peter Guarasci.

His team is the worst offensive team in the league, scoring just 64.7 points a game. That was the team's output in both road losses last weekend. On the bright side for UBCO, the team gives up just 73.3 points a game, third best in the Canada West, just ahead of Winnipeg and UBC.

Azi Fahandeg-Sadi is the squad's main offensive threat and has tallied 13.8 points per game so far this season.
