REGINA, Sask. –
Kris Young's 28 points led the UBC Thunderbirds women's basketball team to a 72-55 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies in a Canada West semifinal game on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on the campus of the University of Regina.
Young had 13 points at the break and caught fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in the final 10 minutes alone to help UBC pull away from Saskatchewan late.
The Huskies were within 10 points of UBC for most of the first three quarters and pulled to within seven after a pair of Riley Humbert free throws late in the third, but the Thunderbirds put together an 11-2 run to push the lead up to 16 two minutes into the fourth and cruised to victory.
UBC will play the winner of the Regina/Fraser Valley semifinal on Saturday night in the Canada West championship game at 5 p.m. Pacific, while Saskatchewan will play for third place in the conference against the loser of the other semifinal.

Canada West TV.
Young ended up 11-for-18 from the field and hit all four of her three-pointers.
Zara Huntley was 8-for-11 from the field and scored 18, while Alexandra Vieweg had 11 points and tied Young for the team lead with seven rebounds. As a team, UBC shot 56% from the field compared to 36% for Saskatchewan.
Katie Miyazaki led the Huskies with 20 points and collected a game-high six steals. Dalyce Emmerson had a team-high six rebounds for Saskatchewan.
NOTES: UBC will earn an automatic berth to the 2012 CIS Championship with a win on Saturday night and will head to Saskatoon to compete in the CIS West Regional next weekend with a loss in the conference championship game on Saturday ... Saskatchewan will participate in the CIS West Regional as the host school regardless of how the Huskies do on Saturday.
