BOX SCORE
"It was a solid road effort for the second straight night," said UBC head coach
Doug Reimer. "While we were not pushed hard I thought we executed well again especially our side out. We had solid attacking from our wing hitters and I thought we played consistent defence."
Just like the night before, the T-Birds jumped out to early leads that the Huskies couldn't surmount. The Thunderbirds started the match on an 8-2 run to set the tone for the rest of the night.
Rosie Schlagintweit's (Abbotsford, BC) third kill of the first set put UBC up 19-6 and the two teams traded points the rest of the way for a 25-12 T-Birds victory.
In the second set, Saskatchewan scored just one point in the first seven points recorded and gave away 15 to the T-Birds on various errors.
Saskatchewan matched UBC point-for-point in the third set, even having the lead twice. But an Abigail Keeping service run that included an ace gave the T-Birds back the lead.
UBC's trouble in the match came on serving with 12 errors in the matching including eight in the first set and a half.
Lisa Barclay led the T-Birds with 10 kills, seven digs, two block assists and a hitting percentage of .615.
Rosie Schlagintweit added another eight kills and seven digs, while
Shanice Marcelle had seven kills.
Second-year middle blocker Kayla Tycholiz led the Huskies with five kills and two solo blocks. Libero Haley Williams had five digs.
With the win UBC improves to 5-1 on the season, while the Huskies drop to 1-5.
The Huskies travel to face the No. 1 ranked Trinity Western Spartans next weekend, while UBC remains on the road to face the Calgary Dinos.
