Bellingham, Washington - In their final exhibition game before the Canada West regular season starts next weekend, the UBC Thunderbirds women's basketball team lost 71-51 to the Western Washington Vikings Saturday afternoon in Bellingham.

Leigh Stansfield (Victoria, BC) led UBC with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Thunderbirds struggled to find the hoop on the day, shooting just 33.3% from the field.
Kris Young (North Vancouver, BC) chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds. With the loss, UBC finished 4-3 in exhibition play.
Western Washington, which is the top ranked team heading into the Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference season, led by 6 at the break before opening it up in the second half and eventually winning by 20 points.
6'2 centre Britt Harris was the game's leading scorer, pouring in 18 points for the Vikings. She also had 10 rebounds on the day.
The Thunderbirds now get set for their season opening series against Trinity Western University November 2-3 in Langley.
UBC's home opener will be the following weekend against Thompson Rivers University.
