VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's volleyball team started its Quebec tour on a winning note on Thursday, defeating Montreal 3-0.
"It was a good win for our first match against a CIS team, but the Montreal team was pretty devastated with injuries, missing their setter, top leftside attacker and middle," said UBC head coach
Doug Reimer.
"So despite the fact that they return most of the team that pushed our squad in the CIS semifinal last year, and will no doubt be contending at the end of the year this year, their squad was not as strong offensively as what we had prepared for."
The set scores were 25-12, 25-22 and 25-15 in favour of the T-Birds.
Lisa Barclay (Brandon, MB) knocked down 11 kills to lead the UBC offence.
"There were several positives on our side of the court as we played with good composure and had the chance to get all players into the match and get solid court time," said Reimer.
UBC will travel to Quebec City tomorrow for two matches against Laval as part of the SSQ Challenge pre-season event.
