VICTORIA – Whitney Siegmann scored the equalizer for the UVic Vikes as they tied the reigning CIS champs UBC Thunderbirds 1-1 Saturday morning in Victoria.

Thunderbirds forward Victoria Pearson opened the scoring in the 12th minute by burying the rebound off a penalty corner after steady UBC offensive pressure in the early minutes of the game.

The Vikes came out strong in the second half resulting in co-captain Whitney Siegmann finding the ball in a scramble and slipping it past 'Birds goalkeeper Bea Francisco.

UBC remains undefeated on the young season after sweep the Calgary Dinos last weekend.

The Thunderbirds will face off against the Vikes in the second game of the weekend doubleheader Sunday, September 26 at 11 a.m. at the UVic turf field.
