REDDING, CA - It was a 4-0 start to the UBC Thunderbirds conference season as they defeated Simpson University 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the no. 13 ranked T-Birds to 10-1 overall on the season.
Yesterday, the T-Birds beat Simpson 3-0, 3-1, and 15-2 in a triple-header after their games on Friday were delayed due to heavy rain.
On Sunday, UBC fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first, however, they went ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth after a pair of Simpson errors kept the T-Birds inning alive.
The hosts tied the game in the bottom of the inning, however, UBC blew open the game with a three-run inning in the sixth. After a couple of walks and a wild pitch loaded the bases and let UBC score once,
Sammie Starr singled home a pair to close out the scoring.
Simpson added one in the bottom of the seventh but that was all the scoring this afternoon as
Taylor King shut the door in the eighth and ninth to earn the save.
UBC continues their conference season next weekend on the road against Corban College with a pair of double headers. They begin their home schedule the following weekend, hosting College of Idaho on March 13 and 14.
