NORMAN, Okla. - The UBC Thunderbirds ran into a red hot Okalahoma Sooners squad in an exhibition game at the Lloyd Noble Center on Tuesday night and found themselves on the losing side of a 93-53 final.

The Sooners, who made it to the NCAA's Elite Eight last year, shot the lights out in their first game without star Blake Griffin who was the No. 1 selection earlier this year in the NBA Draft.

Reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Willie Warren, who was recently voted the preseason player of the year by the Sporting News, led the Sooners with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting.

The Sooners had six players reach double figures and shot an impressive 54.8 per cent (34-62) from the field and an even more staggering 56.5 per cent from three point land, making 13-of-23 shoots from behind the arc.

Josh Whyte led UBC with 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three-point land, but he was the lone T-Bird to hit double figures as UBC struggled shooting, making just 35.6 per cent (21-of-59) from the field and 17.6 per cent (3-of-17) from three-point land.  Kamar Burke finished with eight points, second best on the team, while leading the T-Birds with eight boards.

UBC took an early 5-4 lead on a Whyte layup off the fast break but it was mostly Sooners from then on as they built a 38-26 lead at the half.

The hosts really pulled away after the break with an 11-0 run pushing their lead to 60-37 just over seven minutes into the second half.  Their hot shooting continued down the stretch and a 9-0 run gave them an 85-46 advantage with just under three minutes to play.

The T-Birds have a bye weekend in Canada West competition this weekend before returning to the court on November 13 and 14 as they host the Saskatchewan Huskies and Alberta Golden Bears.
