The UBC Thunderbirds lost 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 23-25) to the Dalhousie Tigers in exhibition action Wednesday night at the Dalplex in Halifax.
This was the first game of the T-Birds East Coast road trip that will also see them tangle with the UNB Varsity Reds later in the week.
The T-Birds only took their first lead of the match in the third set, leading by as many as three at 11-8. The Tigers, who held UBC's hitting percentage under .300 in each of the three sets, regained their form midway through the final set and did enough to hold off a UBC comeback attempt that saw the set end 25-23.
Dalhousie notched 42 kills as a team with Sander Ratsep tallying a game high 14 and Devon Parkinson also hitting double figures with 10.
The T-Birds were unable to match the offensive success of their hosts, as they had just 27 kills on 70 total attacks. Newcomer
Demijan Savija had a UBC best nine kills.
Both team struggled from the service line with UBC making 17 errors to Dalhousie's 16. The T-Birds did win the blocking battle, however, besting the Tigers 6.5-5.5 in total blocks.
