VANCOUVER – One day after handing the UBC Thunderbirds their first goal against in Canada West play, the University of Alberta Pandas served up another, becoming the first team to defeat UBC this season, thanks to a 1-0 decision Sunday afternoon at Foote Field in Edmonton.
Alberta's lone tally came on a short corner just as the first half expired off the stick of Jackie Trautman.
UBC certainly had their chances in the first half, but Alberta goalie Tory Spencer stood tall.
In the second half, the action went back and forth, but neither team generated much in the way of quality scoring chances.
Each team was solid on defence, and both Spencer and her UBC counterpart
Dina Bulfone were on hand to quash any chances that did come their way.
With the win, the Pandas claim third place in the Canada West standings and are now just one point back of the Victoria Vikes for second place.
