Sammie Starr

Sammie is entering his second season as assistant coach after two years in a part time position. Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, he joined the baseball program as a player in 2007. As a Thunderbird, Sammie was a four-year starter through 2010. During his tenure as a T-Bird, Sammie received multiple accolades for his play. He was recognized as a top defender at short stop in the NAIA West by receiving Gold Glove Awards in back-to-back seasons (09/10), along with NAIA West All Conference Team honours in 2010. Sammie also represented Canada at the World University Games in the Czech Republic (2008), and at the World Baseball Challenge in Prince George (2009).
 
Following his university career, Sammie was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 34th round of the MLB Amateur Draft. He played at every minor league level, making his way to AAA in 2012. After a five-year playing career, Sammie made the transition to coaching. He spent two seasons coaching in the Baltimore Orioles' minor league system at the Rookie and Single A levels as a third base coach and infield instructor.
 
Sammie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and currently resides in Vancouver.
