Coleman Allen was spectacular at the Canada West swimming championships in Calgary, winning six gold medals for the UBC Thunderbirds and earning the conference's Male Swimmer of the Year honour for the second straight year and was named the Canada West First Star of the Week.
 
Allen won three individual gold medals, in the 50-, 100- and 200-metre butterfly events, and three relay golds.
 
On the first day, the third-year Arts student claimed first in the 50m fly in 23.91 seconds and then helped UBC set a new conference standard in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
 
On day two, he broke his own Canada West record in the 100m butterfly, completing the final in 52.08. He then teamed up with three teammates to capture gold for the Thunderbirds in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
 
Then on day three, Allen, who was born in Barrie, Ont., reset another one of his own Canada West records, this time in the 200m butterfly, winning in a time of 1:57.59.
 
He capped off the meet by swimming in the 4x100m medley relay, which UBC won in three minutes, 37.78 seconds.
 
Allen and the rest of his UBC team will now prepare for the CIS championships Feb. 20-22 at the University of Toronto.
